Quetica’s freight practice area leader, Mark Berndt, was recently published in Urban, Planning and Transport Research – An Open Access Journal, Volume 9, 2021 – Issue 1. Mr. Berndt served as a contributing author for the research paper “Multi-criteria prioritization of highway-rail grade crossing for improvements: case study,” which presents a multi-criteria methodology for prioritizing highway-rail grade crossings for grade separation or other major improvements. The paper’s contributions consider safety, economic, environmental, and community/livability, and a case study that prioritizes crossing at two separate rail corridors and a comparison of the results.
The paper was a derivative of research conducted in support of NCHRP 25-50: Prioritization Procedure for Proposed Road–Rail Grade Separation Projects Along Specific Rail Corridors. That research was published as NCHRP Report 901.
