City of Pittsburgh Snowplow Route Optimization, Route Management and Navigation Services
Currently, the Quetica team is working with the City of Pittsburgh to provide route optimization, route management and navigation services for approximately 400 vehicles and 2,400 lane miles, including route optimization modeling and associated consulting support to enable optimized routes for a number of different
services in the City of Pittsburgh. These services will improve safety, better serve the City’s customers, and effectively and efficiently provide comprehensive snow management solutions while reducing costs associated with materials, labor and equipment.
In a recent Pittsburgh press release dated June 30, 2020, the City stated it saved more than $1 million from new road salt distribution methods adopted by the Department of Public Works. Mayor William Peduto stated, “The technology is already paying for itself and will only lead to more savings year after year.” The press
release stated the overall cost of the upgrades was $1.7 million and that with a $1 million in salt saving alone last winter, the upgrades will pay for themselves during the 2020-2021 snow season.
