Huerfano School District – New High School Facility
This project for Huerfano School District is a 56,000 square foot, new high school facility located on the site of the existing high school built in 1920. The new facility includes a three-story academic wing with central learning stair, the heart of the student-centered space. The facility features a band/music room that also acts as stage and theater space. The academic wing features include a student commons area, an outdoor classroom, as well as art and science spaces. Additionally, there are administrative offices, a gymnasium, locker rooms, a wrestling room, fitness areas, a culinary lab, concessions, kitchen, and an automotive classroom. Due to the expansive soils in the area, the new school was designed to be supported on grade beams and pile caps supported on drilled piers with structural two-way slab on void forms. Quetica is providing structural engineering services.
