Texas DOT Truck Parking Model
Insufficient parking spaces for over-the-road, commercial truck drivers was first identified as a significant safety issue in the U.S. in the 1990’s, and has only increased in importance since with the growth in freight volumes and introduction of Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) and regulations related to commercial truck drivers Hours of Service (HOS).
Quetica worked with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to advance prior truck parking demand approaches through the introduction of network optimization algorithms to improve truck parking investment decisions, and to provide a optimization tool that can be used in concert with other TxDOT tools to support long-range planning activities related to truck parking.
Ultimately, this modeling effort produced a tool that is responsive to the dynamic Texas economy in the future. The TTPM helps public planners public truck parking facility operators with capacity planning and management for various times throughout the day by identifying the locations and capacities for new parking facilities, as well as identifying existing parking facilities that need expansion.
