The Port of Saint Paul plays a critical role in the growth of regional and local economies by linking Minnesota and Midwest producers to domestic and international markets by facilitating the efficient movement of commodities by truck, rail, and barge. A new PBS documentary, produced in cooperation with the Saint Paul Port Authority, examines the Current State of our Working River:
“Called ‘silent giants’ barges carry millions of tons of commodities through St. Paul on the Mississippi River. The river provides both jobs and an environmentally friendly option to move goods without adding trains to tracks, or trucks to roads. For the benefits provided by river shipping the need for investment to maintain river infrastructure is continuous.”
