Province of New Brunswick Route Optimization + Management Services

Quetica was awarded a project to work with the Province of New Brunswick to provide fleet route optimization and management services for approximately 450 vehicles, including plow trucks, graders and loaders. The Province is comprised of six districts and historically utilized paper-based routes for plowing, sanding and/or salt operations. The project scope of work included building a route optimization model, generating optimized routes and deploying an optimization tool for ongoing route management, which supports the New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s (DTI) provincial-wide snow management operations. Our approach uses several optimization algorithms to develop an optimized route structure. This effort enables DTI to streamline the snow removal process, reorganize snow routes to reduce operational costs via a reduction in dead-head miles travel, and attain maximum efficiency across the network.
